Over mij

De menselijke wereld kan luid, chaotisch en allesoverheersend voelen. In het landschap vind ik een andere schaal. Natuurlijke processen zijn ouder, trager en groter dan wij. Tegenover die grootsheid worden onze menselijke urgenties relatief. Dat geeft mij ruimte en rust.

Met fotografie zet ik het landschap stil. In mijn atelier probeer ik de beweging en verandering van het landschap weer terug te brengen. Door mijn foto’s op Japans papier te printen en het papier te vouwen, buigen en vormen, wordt het beeld zelf veranderlijk. Licht en schaduw worden onderdeel van het werk en blijven het beeld veranderen.

Landschappen gevormd door beweging en erosie fascineren me: water, steen, bomen, verschuivend terrein. Mensen zijn grotendeels afwezig in mijn werk. Wanneer menselijke figuren verschijnen, verwijzen ze naar onze tijdelijke aanwezigheid en naar de sporen die we achterlaten.

Het landschap heeft ons nooit nodig gehad.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Before dedicating myself fully to my artistic practice, I worked as a researcher and lecturer in academia. My academic work focused on human memory, investigative interviewing and the reliability of eyewitness testimony.
