In my work, the landscape is never completely still.
The human is absent. Not as an aesthetic choice, but as a position. When human noise falls away, another kind of silence remains — not calm, but indifferent.
The landscape has never needed us.
I see how human activity continuously reshapes the land, reducing it to raw material — driven by the need to grow, to win, to consume. Responsibility is collective, yet guilt often feels personal. My work sits in that tension.
I treat the print as a physical object. Some works are intervened in, others are left untouched. The surface never fully resolves. The image resists being fixed. It refuses to hold a single moment.
The landscape continues without us. Not as an idea, but as a condition.
BIO
Geralda Odinot is a Dutch visual artist working with black-and-white photography and hand-formed prints. Her work focuses on landscapes without human presence, approached as a deliberate position rather than an aesthetic choice.
With a background in forensic psychology (PhD), she moved into visual art in 2019. This training still informs her way of working: analytical, material-driven, and grounded in observation.
Odinot approaches the photographic print as a physical surface rather than a neutral image. Through subtle interventions in the paper, she introduces movement, tension and irregularity — allowing the image to remain unsettled.
